Every Cup - The Long Journey Home

The Long Journey Home

The Long Journey Home

Maddie and I have been friends since high school, regularly spending afternoons at Tim Horton's, and once we got our licenses speeding off to Tim's for lunch. With the transition to university our love of Tim Horton's and friendship remained stronger than ever. In December of 2016, we both left our biology exam relieved, but stressed for our chemistry exam the following morning.  Together we left school and began our commute home on the subway. When we emerged, we were shocked to discover that what had been a beautiful clear winter day had turned into a blizzard. Since neither of us had our notes for the organic chemistry final that was less than 24 hours away, we decided it was best to face the storm. Once we hit the roads, chaos ensued! The unpredicted snowfall had caused people to leave work early and clog the roads so the plows could not get through. Slowly, we inched our way forward. The clock was ticking and we were not moving. Three hours in to a normally 40 minute drive and only halfway home, we were starving and stressed. At that moment we see the lights of a Tim Horton's on the opposite street corner. Maddie jumps out of the car, running in the blizzard, to reach the only thing that could make us survive the rest of this dreadful journey. In the time it takes her to get our order of grilled cheeses, potato wedges and hot chocolates, I had only made it through the intersection. The rest of the journey seemed somewhat less painful with food in hand, and eventually, seven and half hours after our departure from school, we arrived home. "So much for studying", I thought as I crashed into bed, with my empty Tim's cup on my nightstand.
