While I was living in Sydney, Australia in 2004, my friend Katy came to visit me. While on route from Toronto to Sydney, she picked up a box of Timbits at the Vancouver airport. Not only did she make many new friends on the plane with the help of the Timbits, after she arrived we found that carrying the Timbit box around Sydney started to draw a lot of attention toward us. Every single Canadian that walked by stopped and asked, "Is there a Tim Hortons in Sydney now?". After living in Sydney for some time at that point, I had not realized just how many other Canadians were living there too until the box of familiar Timbits brought them out of their shells. We explained the story of how they arrived and shared them (still quite fresh) with some of our new Canadian friends.
