My Buddy Ken asked me to go to the annual Motorcycle Rendezvous in New Liskeard Ontario I figured 650 km is a nice ride. We started off on the 401 past Kitchener before we exited onto the county roads through rolling farmland. We arrived in Orangeville where there just happens to be a Tim Hortons and gas stop. We continue on to highway 27 then turn north to join up with 400 highway in Barrie and then onto highway 11. We continue north on highway 11, the countryside has ever increasing rolling hills, some huge rock formations, and the rivers making it a scenic ride. As we ride around North Bay on the bypass we pull into the gas station and right across the road is surprise, another Tim Hortons. Well it is also break time so I guess you know where we headed after gassing up. After we finish our coffee and blueberry fritters we continue northward with the only change being the road become 2 lane. As we see the sign for New Liskeard we turn into a scenic overlook and much to our surprise there before us is as far as the eye can see is flat farm land. What a dramatic change. We head into town and get registered early before traveling further north. We take a sideroad and then we head onto a dirt path leading to a pond with a very old travel trailer, belonging to a friend of Kens, which is to be home for the next couple of nights. The next day we ride back into New Liskard to take in some of the planned events- vendor booths, wall of death stunt riders, the Cannon Lady, etc. and a very delicious beef and turkey dinner provided by a local church. The next day we head further north on some back roads as neither of us really likes big group rides. Entering Kirkland Lake there it is, the local Tim Hortons. What is really great about a small town Tims is you get to find out about the things of interest and local characters. We travel to Swastika and find out this town is named after a gold mine started here long before WWII in 1907. The town prefers the older swastika meaning as that of a good luck symbol. Our return trip included Tims at North Bay. Hearing of slowdowns on highway 400 in Barrie we turn off early cross-country through a lot of small communities without any Tim Hortons, what a bummer. We eventually come into Guelph and let my GPS find a Tims. After gassing up the bikes we head out onto the 401 for the final dash home after a great riding trip punctuated by some necessary stops at some Tim Hortons along the way.
