Darren and Germaines Bike Trip 2009 We couldnt wait for July, @ last it was the 8th and we were on the road. Our trip would start in Fort Nelson, BC (our home). Just for the record we dont have a Tim Hortons! This is our second trip across Canada on our Harley. Late leaving home so I knew we would not make breakfast @ Tims in Fort St John (377kms down the world famous Alaska Hwy), wed have to settle for coffee and danish later in the day... We had kept an eye on the weather channel so knew we could expect chilly mornings, stopping at Tims always saved the day! It was my partners job to navigate the bike in and out of traffic and my job to be on the lookout for Tims. We had a bit of a routine, up early, on the road by 8am, make a few miles and stop for breakfast at Tims just before 11am, finding that we made better mileage if we got an early start. When my friends heard I was going all the way across Canada on the back of a motorcycle, they said I was crazy. Well, call me crazy, but if you want the best way to see this vast, beautiful country, travel by motorcycle! From beautiful British Columbia to Nova Scotia, every time we stopped at Tim Hortons we could not believe how friendly people were, young and old, all wanting to know where we were from and where we were going. Our destination, with a few stops in between, was Halifax, Nova Scotia. We stayed at some great places but at every new place my partner was out looking for the nearest Tim Hortons! We both had 2 months off work, so we were having the time of our lives. Though there is a lot of beautiful country from coast to coast, my favourite is the east coast. We found a little piece of heaven in Louisberg, Nova Scotia. We were able to stay in a place that had a gorgeous view of the ocean and have our morning coffee on the deck, smelling the salt air and listening to the waves crashing against the rocks. Life doesnt get any better than that! We did a lot of touring in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick; our days were not complete unless we stopped at Tims! The highlight of our trip was rockin to ACDC in Moncton, NB with 70,000 other folks. What a blast! After the concert, we travelled back to Minto, NB, of course with a stop @ Tims. Towards the end of our trip I found I was missing home and looking forward to the long ride home to Fort Nelson...only a short 8 day ride! Our round trip total of 14,064kms and daily visits to Tim Hortons made for one heck of a summer ride, one that I wont soon forget.
