It was a few days after the end of term at the University of Alberta. My boyfriend and I were rushing to the airport a half an hour before my flight because the flight time had changed. We arrive at the airport and share a tearful goodbye. I run into the airport and run through security. I can hear my name being called on the PA system. When I arrive at my gate I see my plane leaving the terminal. The airport employee tells me I have missed my flight. I was heartbroken that I wouldn't get home. Overwhelmed, I collapse in a chair, head in my hands, and begin to cry. As I am sobbing a kind man approaches me with a medium Tim Hortons coffee with cream and sugar in his hands. All he says is "this will calm your nerves" then hand me the coffee. I get home safe and I am forever grateful to the kind man who made this airport disaster a little more bearable.
