Our son lives north of Vancouver with his beautiful redhead girlfriend. He talks about her all the time and we very much wish to get together and meet her. But we live "half a country" away in Oakville and unfortunately with our jobs and hectic schedules, the timing has never been right. Until recently. My son called to say they were travelling to Halifax for a week of sightseeing and the journey had a short stop-over at Toronto Pearson airport. Finally our chance to meet, but how will we make this event happen? Their flight lands at 6:00 am with the connecting flight departing one hour later. How can they exit and re-enter security in such a short time window? Who wants to meet a potential future family member under the watchful eyes of the transport bureau in an airport hallway? How are we even going to find them in a huge airport? We needed a rendezvous that was easy to find, warm, quick and welcoming. Where a twenty minute stopover can feel like hours. ANSWER: the Tim Hortons at the Arrivals Level of Terminal 1 at Pearson airport in Toronto. So we made the plan. Right on time, their plane landed, they gathered their carry-on, deplaned, walked briskly through the ramps out of security and down the stairs to the nearby Tims. We hugged and laughed and enjoyed our warm conversation over warm Tim Horton beverages. She looked just like her pictures (only better). Even though we shared only a few moments together, they were very special. Soon our time was up and we quickly scooted them off to make their connection. We watched them until the security doors closed shut. People often remember where they first met and I am sure years from now the memory will remain. Thanks Tim Hortons for giving us a small oasis in a busy transportation hub.
