First in Line

When I heard that the vacant lot at the corner of Warden and Lawrence was going to be the site of a new Tim Hortons, I was ecstatic. I had been driving several km to pick up my daily double double. This new site was just around the block.

I watched in anticipation as construction progressed and when the building was complete, I walked in and introduced myself to the manager. I told him that I intended to be first in line on opening day. He thanked me and announced that they planned to open on Saturday at 6:00 am. …. I’m retired. Zzzz …. Oh no!

I told myself I was a fool and a fanatic. Then I told myself something even better: Carpe Diem. Seize the day! You live but once, you like Tim Hortons and you love your double double. Besides, someday this will make a great story.

Well guess what? Years later, I have become friends with the nice young fellow in the drive through and the rest of the staff know me by name and let me know about it if I miss a day. And I don’t feel the least bit foolish driving away with a smile on my face.

Pretty good story, eh? Pretty good coffee. :)
