Discovered Tim Hortons while stationed in Brunswick, ME and became an instant fan. For three years, Tim received more money than I care to think about. As is the norm, my time in Maine came to a close, and we picked up and moved to Virginia. For over two years, I bemoaned the loss of Tim in my life. The dreaded "other" coffee place, who shall rename nameless in this story (but initials are DD)...became my only fix. While not what I craved, it at least aided in my coffee-holism for the short term. Earlier this year, I was called upon to deploy to Afghanistan. While there, I was able to make trips to various locations in my job, one of which was Kandahar Air Base. While on my first trip there, I was reminiscing with a fellow Sailor about places we'd been, food and drink consumed. When I brought up Tim Hortons, he laughed. I immediately went to bat for my favorite purveyor of amazing coffee, which made him laugh all the harder. Eventually, through gasps and pangs of laughter...he finally told me something I simply could not believe: "We have one here." Come to find, the Canadian Military did indeed have a presence on this base, and of course, brought along their own treasured coffee addiction. Who could possible appease this addiction? Tim Horton's of course!! My heart and wallet sang, as we rushed over to partake. I made sure to take every opportunity I could to get back to Kandahar during my time over there, making the long and difficult deployment just a little bit more pleasant. As an added bonus, I won a limited edition camouflage hat in the Rrroll up to WIN contest. Now...to find one a bit closer to home, and keep my coffee-aholicsm alive and well!!
