It all started when I was teaching on the Sunshine Coast. In 2002-2004 I got a job offer to teach in Powell River BC. I thought to myself this could be a great opportunity and a wonderful experience so I decided to leave the Southern Interior. I was very keen and was teaching a full course load and was given a chance to take part in a YMCA Youth Exchange Program. A teacher called me from Meaford, Ontario. I had never heard of Meaford as I had only ever been to Ottawa, our nation's Capital. Nevertheless I listened to this teacher and he had really wanted to travel to British Columbia, so I agreed to take part in this cultural adventure. Most of the students that I worked with in Powell River had never really traveled outside of their city, yet alone to another province on the East side of our country. We decided to do a foreign language exchange as both of us teachers were teaching French as a Second Language in our provinces. I was going to take 21 students to Ontario at Spring Break where we would be hosted by the other teachers and students and were being billeted out. This was a lengthy process of interviews and emailing back and forth in order to try and come up with the best matches. Finally after months of planning and fundraising it was time to get our bags packed and head to Vancouver to fly to Ontario. We were all pretty excited about finally going on the exchange trip. We flew into Toronto, which we all know that Ontario is the Tim Horton's capital of Canada. I was especially excited because as soon as we landed I could see the Yellow Tim Horton's signs everywhere. This was especially exciting for me since I love Tim Horton's. My eyes lit up and as soon as we got to Meaford there were Timmy's locations all throughout the town. The very next morning our first stop was straight to Timmy's for my large double double coffee. I was able to have Timmy's coffee for the entire week. YAY! Now I was overly excited due to the fact that I never got to have it back home in Powell River. To end this long story I had the best coffee experience on this trip and when the group came to visit us in Powell River two months later, one of the mother's of one the Meaford students sent me a large tin of Tim Horton's coffee because she new just how much I loved Timmy's. That was one of my most memorable coffee stories and I cherish it today because of her thoughtfulness. I still enjoy my dark Tim Horton's coffee every morning. : )
