It was 2005. My best childhood friend's brother from South Africa came to visit me in Canada. I'd had a secret crush on him since I was a kid and I hadn't seen him for quite a while. We took a driving trip from Ontario to the east coast, such was the plan, and we'd made it as far as the Cabot Trail when he became really ill and was almost hospitalized. As a result we were forced to cut or road trip short and return to Ontario. A lot of things went wrong for us on that trip but thankfully we got along really well. I know that both of us we open to a possible romantic connection but unfortunately the circumstances and timing weren't in our favour. I was heartbroken. The point of all this: no matter where we were on our roadbtrip, Tim Horton's was our favourite breakfast/snack spot - we particularly enjoyed the thick-slice toast in Quebec - we would literally look for a reason to pick up a Tim's coffee and I even sent Jake a TIm Horton's mug to South Africa as a Christmas gift shortly afterwards . . . it's now almost seven years after the fact and he still uses that mug. We're also still great friends, stay in touch regularly and so it is that TIm Horton's has kept us close at heart to this very day.
