My story starts with the recent opening of the first Tim Hortons in the middle east in the city of Dubai. Canadians here are few in number compared to the many expats living here and the topics of conversation rarely include Canada and Canadian ways, its mostly British, Australia, South Africa, Europe and Asia. The popular radio station here has 2 British Dj's that like to talk about their traditions and I thought it be good to take them some Canadian pride and introduce them and the listeners to some Double Doubles/Ice caps and timbits. When I met the Dj's they were impressed with the coffee and donuts and when they found out I had nothing to do with Time Hortons company and that I was just a proud Canadian wanting to spread the good news about the arrival of Tim Hortons they decided to put me on the air. We then discussed Canada/Tim Hortons and Hockey. They were great and the little interview went over well. A few days later a friend contacted me to inform me the owners of the Tim Hortons here heard the radio show and was trying to track me down to say thank you. Through the small hockey scene here in Dubai (Ice hockey as they call it) Tim Hortons got a hold of me to thank me for the exposure and to send over a gift. We celebrated Thanksgiving on Oct 7th with our Canadian friends the same day I received the thank you gift. So at our Canadian thanksgiving meal we had Tim Hortons coffee/ coffee mugs and donuts to celebrate with, truly making us feel like being back in Canada. Thanks Tim Hortons Dubai for the gift and a good story for me to tell.
