It was Feb 5th 2002.
I was driving to my aunt's, and heading to the O'Keefe Center. ( we are both volunteer members of the National Ballet of Canada). I had only driven less than 2km when I heard on the radio what time it was--seems I never did get around to changing the clock -That meant I would be over 1 hour early--so approaching my local Timmies at Bayview and 16th Ave , rather than drive my big old Buick through the bendy drive thru, I went in.
There was the usual line up. I ended up dropping my change on the ground and the guy behind me was areadly on bended knee helping me pick up coins-- I said my thanks and ordered my extra large Earl Grey tea to go, but went to sit down--usally I would have just left , but that day I had extra time---Apparantly, when the guy was leaving I called him over and asked him where he was going and said he should take a tea break with me---That part I dont rem that part,,,,,,but I did leave with his number.
We spoke on the phone a few days later and made lunch date for Feb 13th---he made it clear he didnt have too much time, but he was working close by. Probably just an excuse to get away if he couldnt rem what I looked like : )
Lunch came and went. He asked me if I had plans the next nite Feb 14th and when I said I hadn't, his reply was you do now----
Dinner came and went-- from that day forward we saw each other every single day --The following month, I met his entire huge Italian family during the passing of their grandmother, his aunt whispered in my ear "as one love leaves us, another love appears". Three months after we met we got engaged--though the ring and the party didnt happen until 6 months--We were married within 11 months of that first tea break.
In my thank you speech at my wedding I said the following:
Now, for those of you who dont know how we meet...We both had a hectic day that day, but never did I think that when I went into Tim Hotons Id come out with not only my extra large tea, but with my future husband" That got alot of claps and heckling.
.
The on going joke was that someone was going to writie to Tim Hortons because they always have Stories on the cups during the Hoildays.
Regardless, Jan 18th 2012 will be 9yrs we've been married ---Our 3 boys cant believe that their dad and mom meet at the place that makes the Jelly timbits : )
