It was cold this morning, only 5 degrees celsius when I grabbed a coffee at Tim Horton's on 152 & 88th in Surrey B.C. There was a fellow standing outside who clearly was down on his luck and was sporting a broken hand. As he stood 10 feet from the door he was shaking & cold, but not asking or begging for any money. He was watching as many people entered before & after me. I kept watching him as I waited in line patiently, & as I waited in line another stranger walked in behind me & instantly struck up a conversation with me as if we had been friends for years. I got my coffee & walked to my truck with coffee in hand. The shaking fellow outside would not even make face contact, as if he was embarrassed or too proud to ask for change. I jumped in my truck & drove past him with enough money that he could buy a coffee & warm up also. I said " You look a bit cold, here is enough money to buy yourself a coffee & warm up." He immediately came & took the money & said "Thank you". I felt good, then I noticed about 7 people outside that were drinking their coffee & chatting together. They were watching what had just transpired & I could tell they were talking about my kind actions to the man. These people then gave me a thumbs up, or nodded "yes" in approval, & some even actually clapped. What a great day this will be for me & it's already looking better for the cold fellow outside. Tim Horton's helps people even when they are unaware of it. I feel warmer inside already.
