It was a few weeks before my 22nd birthday and I had just found out I was pregnant with our first; I was overwelmed to say the least. Contemplating a few different avenues in my head, I felt consumed with anxiety and found myself second guessing my self worth. I felt alone and scared. I had to talk to someone, but not just anyone; it had to be my Big Sister.
Over a quick phone call she agreed to meet me at our favorite little getaway, Tim Hortons. I still remember that night; it was chilly outside as Fall was fast approaching; We both had comfy pants, warm hoodies and our hair not so nicely styled; we were comfortable and felt at home even though only a few tables were left vacant!
Coffee in hand... my fingertips started warming up and then I bluntly announced the big scary news! We cried, we hugged, we smiled..... "everything will be just fine and you'll be a GREAT Mom" she said as tears streamed down her face. She then went on to share "You will have my little girl aren't you?" (she's a mother of two handsome little boys).
She was right! ... I was blessed with a beautiful baby girl. {That I cannot begin to think life without}
It might sound silly to some but it was that specific night that I stopped second guessing myself and knew that I could do this! I was ready for the life long responsibility.
I pick-up a coffee at that same Tim Hortons every day of the week on my way to work; I find myself gazing over at the same corner I once sat nearly 5 years ago with my sister and I can't help myself but to smile. That night, over a warm cup of coffee I felt comfortable and brave enough to share my story with my sister and everything turned out WONDERFULY!
From my local Tim Hortons to yours; May your stories be told and never forgotten.
