Horsmans take on Jimmy the Kid

Winter 1997 and the Oromocto mixed bonspiel. Being from Moncton,my parents and I decided a curling road trip was necessary to shake the winter blues so off we go - we had no idea what we were in for! We arrived Saturday morning at the club to the Tims brewing - it's the norm at every bonspiel to help start the day. We grabbed our Tims, found the draw, and see we are curling what we think are a 'fun' team just like us - much to our chagrin, out walks James Grattan! Turns out money made at the bonspiel was going to help James' team travel to the Brier later that year. So my mom, in great competitive form, donning her favorite levis and corn broom, sticks out her hand to James' and says 'good curling', having NO idea who he is!!! She soon found out, but here's the special part. We beat James' team :-) He was great about it - after all, it was just a fun game to him, but to us, well we had beaten a Brier boy!!! Great times!
