In 2005, before we were married, my husband and I were co-workers. Both of us signed up to play on our company’s team at a charity curling event in Halifax. During the game I developed a migraine and he offered to drive me home. My apartment was an hour away but he drove me home. When we got to my apartment one of my roommates had to drive an hour to bring him back to his car.

In December of that year the Canadian Olympic curling trials or the Tim Horton’s Roar of the Rings was coming to Halifax. My future husband and I were talking at a staff party one night when I mentioned that I was going to the volunteer registration the next day. He said that he would be interested in volunteering as well so we made plans to meet up at the registration.

During the Roar of the Rings we were on different volunteer committees and both of us were very busy but we saw each other from time to time, usually on our way to the volunteer lounge to grab a cup of Tim Hortons coffee or tea to warm us up.

In January of 2006 there was a party to thank all the volunteers for their help. That night was our first date, later that year we started curling together and two and a half years later we were married and we go to Tim Horton's every morning for coffee on the way to work.
