I am a folk singer who recently discovered just how much Tim Hortons means to Canadians everywhere.

At a recent concert I found myself in need of a light-hearted song to brighten the middle of an otherwise low-key set... something catchy and singable. So, being a songwriter, I naturally decided to write one. And for some reason (who knows where these ideas come from) I ended up writing a song about my favourite coffee shop... Tim Hortons.

Imaging my delight when the song turned out to be the hit of the show. The audience was clapping and singing along before the end of the second chorus. Later, backstage, people lined up to tell me how much they enjoyed the tune because they were able to relate to the lyrics... that it was all too true, too funny, and Oh so Canadian.

It got even better. After posting a YouTube video of my son and I performing "Timmy's Anthem" I started getting emails from Canadians all over the world expressing their delight with the song. Seems they shared that same sentiment that the memory of standing in line at Tim Hortons on a sunny Saturday morning was a fond reminder of their homes and friends back in Canada.

It would seem that, along with our glorious scenery and distinctive Canadian traditions, going to Tim Hortons is, as the commercial now says, the "Canadian thing to do".

So cheers, Canada, and enjoy a cup of Timmy's for your country.
