Little did those lined up to watch the Smith Falls Santa Class Parade last November know that the lead car or cargo van was carrying a load of granite. Myself and another Triangle Curling Club member drove up to Pakenham, ON, from Raleigh, North Carolina, to pick up four sheets of curling stones.

Our arena club had grown and we were so happy to find matched stones. The return trip started off great with a stop in Almonte for coffee and Timbits. We continued to head south and as we turned onto the main street in Smith Falls we soon realized we were the last car before they started the parade. I like to say we were the lead car. We waved and smiled at the people lined up along the street. We were very pleased with our new stones and I was very happy to have a box of Timmies for the trip home.

Too bad the rest of our trip was not as smooth. American Customs would not let us enter as our brokerage paperwork was lacking. So we turned our load of granite around and spent the night in Brockville. If we would have known we were going to Brockville we would have brought our shoes.

When I called my mom for advice she said if their is brokerage company called Jensen go with them as they were curlers from Minnesota. A few hundred dollars more and our completed brokerage paperwork from Norman Jensen Inc we were back in the States. It was my first Grey Cup Sunday in Canada and one I will never forgot.
