A few years ago we entered a bonspeil in Stroud Ontario and had entered for the 8AM draw. We drew the name of a local skip for our first game. Upon introducing ourselves to the opposing team we noticed that all of the team members were quite upset and were not talking to one another. During the game none of the opposition spoke to one another and if they did the front end had not a good word to say. After the game I asked a member of the front end where they were from. They said Toronto. I then asked them if they had a bad drive up as they seemed to be a little annoyed at the skip and vice. Then then proceeded to tell me that this was their first bonspiel and that the skip and vice had told them to be at the rink at 7AM for the opening ceremonies and that they were to carry the flag. Well guess what there were no opening cereomines plus the arena doors were locked and this is what set the pace for the rest of the day. Fortunately there was a Tim Hortons across the road so they enjoyed some Timbits and a coffee until the arena doors opened. What a life saver and it warmed their curling souls.
