My husband and I volunteer for Rabbit Rescue Inc. helping abandoned, abused and neglected domestic rabbits find new, loving homes. Rabbit Rescue works with shelters throughout Southern Ontario to save rabbits scheduled for euthanization, get them health checked and spayed and neutered. They are put up for adoption via their website (www.rabbitrescue.ca) and stay in loving foster homes until new, forever homes can be found.
Rabbit Rescue foster homes are widespread, reaching from Chatham to Kingston, so it's no surprise that volunteers do a lot of driving getting rabbits from shelters, to vet appointments, to foster homes and then on to forever homes. And often, a "bunny train" is organized involving a few volunteers who each do a portion of the trip and hand off the bunny from one volunteer to the other.
Sometimes it can be hard to find a place to "meet up" to do these bunny exchanges, but we always manage to find a nearby Tim Horton's to meet at. No matter where we are and where we need to go, there is always a Tim's in the neighbourhood, and it's always easy to find. So, with bunnies in tow, Tim Hortons stores across the province have become our regular pit stops during any "bunny train" transport.
It's always nice to grab a tea or coffee while waiting for that special furry friend to arrive! And when they do, it's nice to spend a little time with them and give them a reassuring cuddle during their journey. And then when the transfer has been made, a donut to go feuls the trip back home.
Whether a bunny is being saved from a shelter, being picked up after surgery or on their way to a new home to begin a new life, it seems Tim Hortons is with them every step of the way, celebrating their victories, warming hearts and feuling the determination of all of our volunteers.
Thanks Tim Hortons!
