It was Sunday morning and I was home with our two and a half year old son Henry while my husband was curling in a bonspiel. We had been up since 6:00 am (the usual waking time for our little guy) so we were looking for something to keep us both occupied. I was focused on Tim Horton’s coffee, so I encouraged my son to go for a drive. Once on the road, Henry asked where his daddy was. I replied (for the umpteenth time that morning) that he was curling. He stated “Let’s go see Daddy.” Though I was hesitant – anything seemed more exciting than “D” draw curling on a Sunday morning – his incessant cries of “Go see Daddy” convinced me, but not before a trip through the drive-thru for my large double-double and Henry’s treat of two Timbits.
I was not expecting we would stay at the rink for too long; Henry had never watched live curling before so I did not expect it to capture his interest, but it goes to show how much little ones learn from T.V. I had just managed to take Henry’s jacket off and sit myself down with my coffee when Henry leapt up, banged on the glass, and started yelling “Sweep Daddy, sweep.” On the other side of the glass, there was Henry’s daddy, sweeping away. The elderly ladies sitting next to us nearly jumped out of their seats, after which they broke into giggles. “A skip in the making” they said. I grabbed my camera to preserve the moment, hoping to have it to share when Henry makes it to the Tim Horton’s Brier.
We only lasted about two ends at the club that morning, but we did manage to provide some smiles for a couple of elderly ladies, and Henry got to cheer on daddy while I enjoyed my Tim Horton’s coffee.
