The morning of Aug 8/09 my 7 year old son,Alex opened his eyes, made one leap from his hotel bed to the desk, picked up a photo and exclaimed "It wasn't a dream!" From the age of 4 as a Hockey Timbit he has been obsessed with the Pittsburgh Penguins and even more Sidney Crosby.
Aug 5-8pm Tim Hortons,Port aux Basques we informed Alex that we would be travelling from NL to Cole Harbour,NS to attend Crosby's Stanley Cup celebrations. He was overwhelmed with excitement!
Aug 6-7am we disembarked the ferry and enjoyed breakfast at Tim's in North Sydney-Alex in full Pittsburgh attire.
Aug 7-Day of Crosby's Celebrations! We arrived early to have breakfast at Tim's in Cole Harbour(home of the world's most famous Timbit)That afternoon Alex was ecstatic to see his hockey hero & Stanley Cup in the parade. Throughout the day we tried diligently but unsuccessfully to get #87's autograph. Alex was wishing to get even closer to his hero. He watched in awe as the lucky 87 winners had their photos taken with Sid & the Cup. He looked on as Crosby answered questions from the crowd(Alex's question was next but time ran out)He peered through the chain linked fence as Crosby relived his childhood street hockey days. At the end of the game we tried to get Alex an autograph but unfortuantely a friendly police officer escorted us away from #87's dressing room. As we were leaving we noticed next to the side exit a Tim Hortons bus. Alex said "That's Sidney's bus from TV maybe he'll be leaving on that bus" We waited alone in the rain hoping that this might be Alex's chance to meet his idol. The Stanley Cup came out of the exit and was seated in the front seat of the bus! We knew that Sidney could possibly follow. The excitement heightened. A black Surburban appeared and #87 stepped out surrounded by security. Overwhelmed with emotion Alex slipped his little arm through the barrier and asked for an autograph. Crosby invited him into the protected circle-A Child's Dream Come True!!
